Struggle for Independence in the Narrative of the Life of...
In the early 1800ââ¬â¢s, the United Statesââ¬â¢ culture of slavery was fostered for a lifespan of forcible enslavement. For all Slaves, this was the normality which was callously endured. Answer: Introduction According to Diem-Wille (2011), early childhood is basically the most critical and sensitive part of overall lifecycle where proper care, continuous growth, appropriate circumstances, good health, language development and learning competency of children works together to build-up a healthy human being. One of the most importance factors that contribute to early childhood development is play (Nurse, 2009). Playing in early childhood is a collaborative effect of different activities that contributes to the overall growth of children by enhancing social, emotional, physical and cognitive well-being (Hughes,F.P., 1991). Children get involved in playing activities because it provides them excitement and pleasure. Through playing, children can get opportunities for articulating, communicating, and getting engaged with their parents as well as society (Woodfield, 2004). Further, as playing is proved to be involved in the cognitive development of children where it helps in the expression of different feelings like anger, sadness, self-control, happiness etc. which help them to understand emotions and their application in daily life. For example- the feeling of sadness after losing a game explain children the importance and power of success in life (Callander, 2010). In this essay a clear understanding towards the impact of playing on the overall reactivity, creativity and functionality of a child named Collin is observed by making critical observations on the video film showing his activities. Further, discussing the early childhood development with the help of a theory that supports the analysis. Analysis of Collin (observation analysis) In the observation, Collin is seventeen months old child whose playing activities explain the excellent early childhood development effort and intelligence of this child. Collin, at the beginning, was observed running around a table placed in the room. Collin for the last forty-six minute has been observed doing different activities one by one. Collin was exposed to a good environment that is free of harmful objects creating environment-friendly position of the child. Collins was observed moving around the table and further positioning the cassettes and alphabet block that highlighted the uniqueness of his early childhood stage. There was no one else present in the room while the observations were performed; hence the activities done by Collin are clearly based on his own intelligence, experiences and learning capabilities. Collin is at a Cognitive stage of early childhood that is considered to be the dumb stage in which a child can arrange things, deform things as well as construct innovative things but cant express their capabilities (Broadhead, 2004). Collins at this initial age was observed collecting DVDs and cassettes as well as trying to arrange them to the correct position on the shelf. Collin is trying to arrange the DVDs in their correct shelves and at the same time trying to differentiate them from their cassettes. But, Collin is not able to express his complexity and confusion because he was observed for performing whimpering noise and rubbing his face that expresses his confusion while positioning the DVDs and cassettes. This complexity generated due to lack of language power and communication capabilities that do not get completely developed in this initial stage of life. However, the intelligent activity of correctly arranging cassettes and DVDs performed by Collin while playing with thes e things explains that Collin is having exceptional cognitive development, intelligent brain and powerful thinking capacity because such activity is less expected from a seventeen-month-old child (Diem-Wille, 2011). Language is considered to be an essential element for expression of feelings, requirements, desire and other cognitive behaviors (Sheppy, 2009). Collin was only heard making some noises and counting numbers that he might have been taught by his parents. Collin was able to capture some short words that he can remember quickly. During this observation, Collin applied his taught words in his playing activities. Collin is seen counting the blocks that he is holding; he can count loudly one by one. For example, he picks the block-by-block, counting 1 up to 6 putting them inside the box. He is self-confident while counting; as if he knew that the order he was using to count the blocks were correct. Collins used facial expression and voice sounds as tools of language for explaining or expressing his feelings. Emotions were also noticed in Collins forty-six minutes observation. It was through social play in which Collin was seen quiet but emotion can tell his confused and complex condition. Collin was engaged in the parallel plays, where he was actually playing without interacting with anybody. He is able to express his feeling in the situations through his expressions. Collin was heard making a whimpering noise, at the same time, he is observed rubbing his face when he wants to pick up the box. It shows that Collin is either critically thinking, or confused with his activities. However, at the end stage of observation, he was observed clapping his hands explaining his excitement and joyous feeling after completing his playing activity. It is been studied that children after observing audience clapping after completion of any activity or parents clapping after a good act by children, they try to copy this clapping episode to express their joy and happiness (Robinson, 2008). Similar activit y was observed in Collins observation. Therefore, this activity performed by Collin indicates the importance of playing in early childhood stage where Collin was able to express his intelligence, learning skills, emotions, communication, excitement, happiness, confusion and complexity that he developed in the different stage of overall act. Colin was only playing as a normal child but the critical observations made of his playing activities helps to understand the importance of playing in early childhood stage of life. Jean Piaget Theory of cognitive development linked with observation analysis In the cognitive theory developed by Jean Piaget, it is been stated that the early child growth and development take place through complex and multiple processes. The action here is though and processed for the development of human intelligence. The actions influence what come after another one in the human life. Piaget theory further indicates about Schemas; where it described that both mental as well as physical action helps in interpreting and also understanding the growth of the world (Robinson, 2008). Theory indicates that a lot of new information is gained and processed in early childhood stage of life. Piaget believed that at the age of 1-2 years, cognitive development follows a certain fixed procedure that is modified by the activities, learning and experience at this stage. Furthermore, the theory describing Schemas indicate that more and more physical as well as mental processes work to develop the cognitive behaviour of individual (Macintyre, 2007). Similar was observed in the case of Collin, where more about mental and physical action involved as seen in the playing activities of Collin. Therefore, the Schemas of early childhood stage are working together for the cognitive development and expression of observed child Collin. Piagets theory indicates that first stage of human life is the 0-2 years period where the child will be learning the world that surrounds him or her through what comes through his senses. Objective performance is the greatest essence of this stage as Piaget puts it (Rathus et al. 2015). The theory states that this is the stage where a child also learns from the existence of certain objects that can be viewed, touched and felt by human conscious. Further, theory indicates that the rate of learning or the learning power at initial life stages like childhood is very high when compared to the adulthood learning power (Neaum, 2010). According to Robinson (2008), there are various reasons that explain this high rate of learning power. One is the biological reason indicating that brain cells are in the naive stage of development in early childhood, and therefore, cells performing a higher activity for development lead to increase in learning power. Second reason explaining accelerated learn ing power in early childhood is their interest development in socialization, interaction and relationship making process, which generally get lower till adulthood. Lastly, development of experiences accelerates the learning power in early childhood stages. Children have high learning capacity and empty mindful state that leads to the development of higher learning power (Rathus et al. 2015). Hence, in this case of observational analysis, it is also observed that Collin at this stage of life is having a very high learning power where he learned different activities in initial stages and expressed them in his playing activities. For example clapping performed by Collin indicates that he has learned or observed someone clapping before as an expression of happiness, which he applied to express his own happiness after completing the activities. Piaget theory also states that at early childhood stage, children always gather information and store them in their conscious (Neaum, 2010). They mostly get knowledge through their sight (watching), grasping and most importantly, through listening. They learn to keep off from danger, Collin is seen moving around the table but cannot climb on it, and the reason behind climbing on it is to avoid the danger and harm (Rathus et al. 2015). These were the major points of Piagets theory of early childhood cognitive development that were obse rved in the current case analysis of playing activities performed by Collin. For instance, between 1960 and 2000, the countryââ¬â¢s population of the aged gained from 2.62% of the total population to only 4.31% in 2010. In fact, the 0.31% was only gained between 2000 and 2011. Overall, the countryââ¬â¢s aged population gained by less than 2.0% within a span of 50 years, which indicates that despite having a constantly growing number of the working class and a reduction in its rate of dependency, there could be a crisis because most people do not reach the age of 65. In addition, this could provide an indication that the life expectancy in Guatemala could be less than 65 years for an average person. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the trend in the life expectancy in Guatemala over the same period. Nevertheless, it is important to look at the countryââ¬â¢s population in terms of the number of females to the n umber of males in order to look at the life expectancy later in the analysis. Within the first one decade of the 21st century, the countryââ¬â¢s life expectancy has continued to increase significantly, with the latest statistics showing that a normal Guatemalan is expected to live up to the age of 71 years. From this analysis, it is worth arguing that the country is on the right track because an increase in life expectancy is an indication of positive economic and social growth. There have been tremendous improvement in life expectancy per gender, with the trend showing a higher expectancy rate for women that that of men (Martins, Yusuf and Swanson 73). For instance, a Guatemalan male had life expectancy of48.88 years in 1960, but has been increasing significantly over the years. By 1970, an average person in the country was expected to live up to 50.1 years, 55.23 in 1980 and 59.39 in 1990. This trend continued, with the male life expectancy reaching 64.77 in 1990 and 67.34 by the end of 2000. Over the last one decade, life expectancy for males in the country has reached an all time high of 68 years. Similarly, female life expectancy has enjoyed massive growth since 1960. For example, in 1960, females were expected to live up to the age of 46.66 years, but increased to 53.396 by 1970. Between 1970 and 1980 and between 1980 and 1990, the average life expectancy for women experienced tremendous improvement by reaching 59.45 and 65.32 respectively. By 2000, the figure had risen to 71.4 before jumping to an all-time high of 74.72 in 2010. These wives are shown to have misled Solomon in a number of ways. Solomon is accredited as the builder of the first temple and many other important buildings and structures in Jerusalem and in the whole of Israel, including cities, ports, a commercial depot, and a military base. He is credited to have written the books of Ecclesias tes, Proverbs, and Song of Songs in the Old Testament (George 101). He is also portrayed as a man of immense wisdom, wealth, and power but eventually as sinful king. He was accused of idolatry and turning away from God which resulted to the kingdom being divided into two during the reign of his son, Rehoboam (Hoerber 437). These sins included marrying far too wives and acquiring wealth in an unrighteous manner. His marriage to the Pharaohââ¬â¢s daughter led to the formation of the nation of Rome that became powerful and eventually led to the destruction of the second temple (Leithart 157). On hearing the decision that meant killing the baby, the woman who had killed her baby was happy with the decision while the actual mother cried and begged that the baby be given to the other woman alive. Through their reaction, Solomon knew the real mother of the baby (Mykytiuk 132). This show of wisdom has made many scholars and Christians to believe that Solomon is the wisest person that ever lived. Solomonââ¬â¢s great wisdom and wealth spread to distant lands that it made the Queen of Sheba to make a trip to Israel to visit the king. She brought many gifts to Israel, including gold and rare gems. The bible says that Solomon gave in to all her wishes, whatever she requested, and she left the land contented (Robert 437). This might imply that they had a sexual encounter. This visit of the Queen has become a foundation for many stories more than imaginable. The History of Java In the middle of May 1995 Java was introduced into the world, and along with Netscape it would be the new way for Internet users to access this new information superhighway. But before it got to this point, Java technology was developed almost by accident. Back in 1991, Sun Microsystems was looking into the future in anticipation of the future of computing, and they tasked a team that became know as the ââ¬Å"Green Projectâ⬠. Their main focus was to come up with a plan for the future of computing, but what they came out with was something quite unexpected. Under the guidance of James Gosling, a team was locked away in an external site to work on the project that would define Sunââ¬â¢s technology direction for the future. Their conclusions pointed toward a future that had computers and digitally controlled devices converging. What they came out with was a language called ââ¬Å"Oakâ⬠, named for the type of tree outside their office window. After failed attempts at selling the technology to the cable industry, the team convened again to determine the future of this new language. With the realization that the Internet was becoming a good way to move media content, the team took that to heart. What they came out with was a language that would use existing the HTML language, and what it did was revolutionize the Internet, and increase its use dramatically. Technology has done a lot for human beings. Without the development in technology it is possible that the pyramids would never have been built and neither would we be able to communicate with each other from remote places all over the world. Some say that these technological advances such as the internet and cellular phones are a boon on society and humankind yet there are also those detractors who say that it is has not simplified life in so much as it has complicated matters. While we enjoy everything that technology has to offer, it cannot be argued that there are times that we are more inconvenienced by it. There are times when one would rather turn his or her cellular phone off so that they can relax more and take it easy. There are also times when they wish they had battery power on their technological devices so that they can work more or accomplish more. The problem it seems is that as technology becomes more advanced and incorporates itself more in the daily lives of people it becomes more difficult to escape from it. The biggest difficulty nowadays is actually turning that piece of technology off without fearing that doing so will leave a person uninformed or make him feel so isolated and left out of this world which is moving at a very rapid pace. It is commonplace to see a person check his computer (either desktop or laptop) every few minutes or so just to make sure that they read the email as soon as it comes in. People bring their work with them almost everywhere they go these days. Work is no longer limited to the confines of a cubicle or an office but can now be performed virtually anywhere thanks to the technological advances that have enabled the invention of portable workstations such as blackberries, laptops and cellular phones. The introduction of teleconferencing has made travel to meetings all but obsolete and the push for more digital convergence has made it possible for people to work from their homes. The proper characterization of this phenomenon is not increasing worker productivity, as it is claimed, but rather invasion of privacy. There is no longer any place that is safe from the summons from work or the orders of a superior. Virtually every place on this planet allows people to perform work at any time and from any location. This means that since the day has still remained at 24 hours, unless scientists have found a way to alter that, and the more that time is devoted to work, the less time on that 24 hour clock is left for privacy and relaxation. Even certain studies have shown that the work hours have dramatically increased from the levels that it was at previously. More and more people put in longer hours with each technological breakthrough that is introduced. It has been argued that this is a good thing because people make more money and more money means happier people. While there is no arguing the fact that more money does make people happy, in general, the devices that have been invented to allow the generation of higher incomes has also reduced the time left to spend that hard earned money. The extra income that is generated by these devices now seems so meaningless and useless since it cannot be spent due to the lack of time to do so. Another problem is also the cost of worker burn out. While productivity is theoretically increased per worker, the added stress and workload that is given per worker leads to a faster deterioration of the human resource and means that in the long run the potential productivity gains are actually nullified by the deterioration of human capital. All of these time saving devices which claim to increase productivity were invented for a simple reason, to decrease work time. They were not really invented to free time up for other work but were envisioned to allow a person to do more with less. We should learn to keep it that way, be happy with doing more with less and do not fret about doing more with more.

How to Format a US Business Letter How to Format a US Business Letter How to Format a US Business Letter By Ali Hale Whatever you do ââ¬â whether youââ¬â¢re a student, employed in an office job, or working as a freelancer ââ¬â I can guarantee that at some point in your life, youââ¬â¢ll need to sit down and write a formal business letter. It might be to a customer, to an employer with a job that you want, or to apply for university funding. Perhaps itââ¬â¢ll even be to a literary agent or publisher who just might take on your undiscovered novel. Of course, youââ¬â¢ll want the letter to be well-written ââ¬â but almost as important is knowing how to format it correctly. This article is about US business letter format (for UK readers, donââ¬â¢t worry, Iââ¬â¢ll be writing a follow-up one for you.) The main formats for business letters in the US are called full block format and modified block format. Full block format means that all the elements of the letter are left-justified so that the start of each line is at the left-hand margin. This is the more formal style, so use it if youââ¬â¢re unsure which to go for. Modified block format means that some elements of the letter are shifted over to the right. Nowadays, this style is appropriate in most contexts. Hereââ¬â¢s a full block format letter And a modified block format one: Letââ¬â¢s break those down into the main elements, in top-to-bottom order: Your Address Your address, also known as the ââ¬Å"return addressâ⬠, should come first. (Note that this applies when using standard plain paper. If you have letter headed paper, you should omit this.) 123 Acacia Avenue Newtown Anywhere AN 98765 Your return address should be positioned: On the left-hand side if youââ¬â¢re using full block format On the right-hand side (tab across, rather than right-aligning) if youââ¬â¢re using modified block format Why put your address? Even if the recipient has your details in their address book, you want it to be as hassle-free as possible for them to reply ââ¬â youââ¬â¢re likely to receive a speedier response. The Date Directly beneath your address, put the date on which the letter was written: May 15, 2008 To avoid any confusion, especially if you are writing to a business abroad, it is best to put the date in word rather than number form, and you should omit the ââ¬Å"thâ⬠. The date should be positioned on the left-hand side, for full block format and for modified block format Why put the date? Itââ¬â¢s standard practice to include the date on which the letter was written. Correspondence is often filed in date order. It makes it much easier for the recipient to send a timely reply, and easier for you to chase up an answer if necessary. Eg. ââ¬Å"In my letter of May 15â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Reference Line Ive not included this on the diagram as guidance varies on where it should be placed. You may include a reference line, starting with ââ¬Å"Re:â⬠This is often used when corresponding with large companies, or when applying for a job. The reference line can either appear beneath the date, OR beneath the recipients address. If you use a reference line, you should usually omit the subject line (see below). The reference line should be left-aligned for both full and modified block formats. Different types of letters will require different types of subject and reference lines, so choose the one thats most appropriate to your case. Why put a reference line? You should use a reference line if the recipient has requested specific information, such as a job number or invoice number, or if youre replying to a letter. This makes it easier for the recipient to get a speedy response to you. Recipientââ¬â¢s Name and Address Beneath this, you should put the name and address of the person youââ¬â¢re writing to, just as it would appear on the envelope. If youââ¬â¢re using a window envelope, this should be aligned on the page to show through the window ââ¬â but even if it wonââ¬â¢t be visible until the letter is opened, it should still be included. The recipientââ¬â¢s name and address should be positioned on the left-hand side, for both formats. Why put their address? If youââ¬â¢re writing to someone in an office, it probably wonââ¬â¢t be them who opens the post. An administrator is likely to do so ââ¬â and letters may be separated from their envelopes at this stage. Particularly if there are multiple departments within one building, or if you are starting your letter ââ¬Å"Dear Bobâ⬠, a name and address ensures your letter reaches the correct recipient. The Greeting After their address, you should leave a lineââ¬â¢s space then put ââ¬Å"Dear Mr Jonesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Dear Bobâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Dear Sir/Madamâ⬠as appropriate. Follow this with a colon. The greeting, sometimes called the ââ¬Å"salutationâ⬠, should always be left-aligned. Why put a greeting? Business letters are a formal type of writing, and itââ¬â¢s considered polite to start with a greeting. Although you can get away with starting emails ââ¬Å"Hiâ⬠or ââ¬Å"Helloâ⬠, letters follow more conservative conventions. The Subject Optionally, you may wish to include a subject for your letter. This is becoming more common, perhaps as people have become used to the subject lines of emails. If you do put a subject line, it should be in uppercase, directly below the ââ¬Å"Dear name:â⬠The subject (if you include one) should be left-aligned for full block format, but can be either left aligned or centred for modified block format. Why put the subject? Itââ¬â¢s a good idea to include a subject so that the recipient can see at a glance what the letter refers to. Try to be succinct but include as much information as possible, eg. ââ¬Å"Funding application from Joe Bloggs, candidate 222-456â⬠. The Text of Your Letter Now, finally, you can write the main body of your letter. Your text should have: Single-spacing between lines A blank line (NOT an indent) before each new paragraph (And, of course, you should conform to all the usual rules of grammar, punctuation and spelling: for example, ensuring that you start each sentence with a capital letter, and finish with a full stop.) Why leave blank lines? In the business world, itââ¬â¢s standard practise to put a blank line between paragraphs. This helps to break up the text on the page and make it more readable. The Closing After the body of text, your letter should end with an appropriate closing phrase and a comma. The safest option is ââ¬Å"Yours faithfullyâ⬠(when you donââ¬â¢t know the name of the person to whom you are writing, ie. when you began ââ¬Å"Dear Sir/Madamâ⬠) or ââ¬Å"Yours sincerelyâ⬠(when you do know their name). If you are already acquainted with the recipient, it may be appropriate to use a phrase such as ââ¬Å"Best regardsâ⬠, ââ¬Å"With warmest regardsâ⬠, or ââ¬Å"Kind regardsâ⬠. The closing should be: Left-aligned for full block format On the right (tab across so it matches up with your address) for modified block format Why use these phrases? Although ââ¬Å"Yours sincerelyâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Yours faithfullyâ⬠might sound archaic, they are time-honoured ways to close a formal letter. Your Name and Signature Put several blank lines after the ââ¬Å"Yours sincerely,â⬠or ââ¬Å"Yours faithfully,â⬠then type your name. You can optionally put your job title and company name on the line beneath this. A photon is among some of the rarest particles that are identical to their antiparticles, in this case, antiphoton. Photon is a generalised term used to explain the electromagnetic spectrum in the range of infrared (IR) radiation to visible light. Transition in the nucleus A photon is one particle that is able to transition in the nucleus of an atom. Though motion is limited in the nucleus, a photon is able to change from one position to another. It is at the nucleus that the energy of an atom is found. However, it is essential to note here that the fo rm of the photon is not changed even though its speed is very high owing to the high level of energy in the nucleus. It moves along with angular momentum that is not dependent on its frequency. The component measured along its direction of motion, herein referred to as helicity, and must be an integer of the planks constant, denoted as h. Circular polarization states of the photon are derived from the two helicities described above, either positive or negative of planks constant. Motion of a photon gives rise to energy being produced and hence law of conservation of momentum must come into play. Conservation of momentum with reference to a photon is also referred to as transitional invariance and requires that more than two photons are created having null momentum. A large sized photon has effects on the nucleus of an atom. Though said to be massless, its effects cannot be overlooked. A photon could alter Coulombs law and there would be extra degrees of freedom for electromagnetic f ields. Energy levels An atom has a varied number of energy levels also referred to as energy states. In each of these energy levels, electrons oscillate with vibrations and thus produce energy. The number of electrons in each energy level increases as the distance from the nucleus increases. The greater the distance, the higher the energy emitted. A photon is emitted when an electron happens to move from a higher energy level to a lower energy level. The wavelength of the photon is the same as the distance between the two energy levels. This photon emitted has energy and this directly proportional to frequency and Planks constant but inversely proportional to its wavelength. The energy emitted by a photon is not dependent much on its mass since its mass is almost negligible though it is known that all matter has mass and occupies space. However, it is imperative to note that photons exhibit the same behaviour regardless of the energy level they are emitted by the transiting electron s. They travel at the same velocity even if moving from high energy level to lower energy level and the velocity can vary in over ten orders of magnitude from the lowest energies of radio waves to the powerful waves of gamma radiation. Photons are usually depicted as packets that carry energy with them though the energy in the packets is discrete.
